“At the rescue cat event, I saw a very special kitten with caramel coloring on her head. I said to my mother, ‘I want that kitten!’” said Angel Scribe’s ten-year-old grandson Yossa. “I saw sparkles in her eyes and immediately knew she was mine. She was being raised in a volunteer foster home.
The store let me hold her. My seven-year-old sister and three-year-old brother also held her. She was so
fluffy and soft. Her fur is an unusual pattern of dark and light colors mixed into polka dots and stripes. Our family thinks she is beautiful.
The staff put her in a carrying box for the ride home. She looked scared so we all talked quietly to reassure her and I let her nibble my finger.
We have two dogs and three male cats, so I put her in the guest bathroom. At bedtime, for a week, my sister and I slept with her. We took our pillows and
blankets and slept on the hard floor. This way Caramel could hear and smell our house. Our other pets were curious about her, but no one got hurt. They were all curious and put their arms under the door to find her. Then one day, our old bossy cat, William, went to Caramel and sniffed her. They hissed a little at each other. The cute part was when the little cat hissed it scared away William, who is a 20-pound Maine coon cat.
All our pets are rescues. Our family knows
how special they are, and we love them. When I grow up, I will save a lot of cats and kittens. I will plant a lot catnip for them to play with and eat.
Caramel is now getting along very well with all of our other pets, and they like her too. She has been running around our house, not even scared of our two dogs and she is fast. When she slides on the floor we laugh.
Sometimes she goes super-fast in circles trying to chase her tail. She is growing
fast, and we learn something new about her every day. She’s learned to jump onto new things, like the tall laundry baskets and our beds. Summer is fun, but adopting Caramel makes it the BEST SUMMER EVER! Everyone’s family should spend time with and adopt rescued animals. It’s a great feeling, no matter what their age.”
