Little Luna was born in world renowned artist, Jody Bergsma’s, garage with a mission. The kitten would become the mews in Jody’s greeting cards and wall art sold worldwide, plus a much-loved house cat.
Angelscribe has collected Jody’s art for years. I saw Persian kittens in her whimsical art. So, when our family drove to Canada, we stopped at her Bellingham, Washington art gallery so she could cuddle
Miss Wings and her three Winglett kittens.
Over the years we watched her art evolve from sweet and charming children’s illustrations with inspirational sayings to thousands of breath-taking animals wrapped in native lore, aboriginal, Celtic and geometric symbols.
Here is Luna’s story and how she helps Jody.
“Native Americans and other cultures believe in spirit animals which are held in high regard as other beliefs do guardian angels,”
said Jody. “They believe that spirit animals come to a person in times of need, a life crisis, major health issue or a life obstacle requiring courage and support.
I love living on a farm and our barn cats are always pouncing through the grass, chasing mice and entertaining the horses and myself.
Ten years ago, when my daughter came home for Christmas, she encouraged me to let one of the outside cats come inside to live with us. Precious was delighted
with her warmer home. Little did we know she was arriving with her own little Christmas gifts – kittens!
Soon after, they were born in my office chair, and I knew it was a sign. She had two gray and white kittens and a pure white one we named Luna.
There is something special about a newborn ‘anything’ and the bonding that takes place is real and lifelong.
Since Luna’s birth she often picks my chair as her favorite perch and later my art table after
she skillfully strolls through the paint tins. I was concerned she was not getting good training from me, but how could I? She was so cute, and her careful athletic skills were amazing!
Luna is my ‘familiar’ and follows me everywhere, my shadow. She’s always with me, so she is often the focus of inspiration. She’s also an art critic who gives her ‘two paws up’ by sleeping on her favorite pieces of art. I continually ask her politely to stay off the paintings! But, she is a cat
and we all know how that went!
Luna is my boss, she tells me when it's time to go to bed, meowing and looking at me and then running to the stairs.
So much for training this intelligent feline, instead; she has trained me very well!
A spirit animal pet shares life with their familiar in very loving ways. In our case, Luna’s and my long outside meow-walk-talks, bring me delight.
There is no better inspiration than
happiness and close animal friends that bring smiles and peace to your home and an artist’s imagination. Art is a tradition that helps define who we are and brings us a vision of who we can become. My painting is my expression and request for a more beautiful, peaceful and harmonious world.
Art and cats naturally go together and if Luna is not on the paintings, she is often in them.
I wish everyone the blessings of the love a spirit animal can bring.” http://www.bergsma.com/
