NOTE: I am forwarding this message onto both my newsletters as readers watched this sweet kitten grow and become famous.
Miss Wings with her captivating owl-shaped green eyes, featured weekly in the Tips ‘n' Tails photo, passed March
29th at the age of 16.
She lived a miraculous life, one that people dream about. She was the only surviving kitten born in December, in Boston to a mother who had lost seven litters. On her birth day, her sibling was still born; so when the breeder, Linda, saw another kitten presenting breech she helped the mother deliver it by pulling its tail assuming it, too, was dead. This action saved Miss Wings’ life but broke her tail off creating the cutest little
puffy-bunny tail.
I was recuperating from a serious health issue and announced to my family, "All I want for Christmas is a Silver Persian kitten."
Friends and family frantically searched trying to fur-fill my heart's wish, but no one found any kittens. All I received was a red sweatshirt with a Silver Persian kitten inside a Christmas stocking stating, "Santa, please bring me a kitten."
Linda previously read my Christmas
Miracle book; so the day after Christmas, she phoned me in Oregon, and offered the tailless kitten thinking that no one would love her more than me. She was paw-sure-ly right, because soon thousands would also love the tiny kitten.
I asked on my "Angels and Miracles" internet newsletter for help flying the 'miracle kitten' to Cottage Grove, Oregon.
A woman volunteered to drive it cross-country and a pilot flying from Maine to Seattle offered to
bring the kitten. Two separate flight attendants offered their help, and one business woman offered to combine flying and driving to get Miss Wings to me in Oregon.
However, a fourth woman in Maryland, Vivian, was determined to be the carrier of this little miracle kitten when her boyfriend gave her $400 to treat herself to something nice for Valentines day. She purr-omptly bought a plane ticket and hand-delivered Miss Wings into my waiting arms, in front of her
first of many TV cameras.
My 50,000 newsletter readers have watched “our” kitten grow through stories and photos.
Miss Wings name is derived from her winging across America, and after Monica, in the Touched by an Angel TV show. For exercise, we walked the mile into town with her leading the way in her harness. When she tired, I carried her in a pretty pink Easter basket.
She married Mr. Wings and gifted us with triplets,
known as the Winglets: Whyspurr, Myster E., and Nymbus.
The fur family became famous for teaching swimming and were featured in international newspapers and magazines, Animal Planet’s “Must Love Cats”, many TV stations, and books. Her son, Nymbus, flew to New York in April 2012 and swam on Anderson Cooper’s show!
Magically, the artist of the kitten Christmas sweatshirt contacted me and featured Miss Wings and the Wingletts on other shirts. I've
seen people wearing them on many occasions!
Always ready for an adventure, Miss Wings visited Canada 12 times and stayed at friends’ homes in Oregon, Washington and BC. She loved sitting on the front dash watching the scenic views, and we bought two vehicles based on, “Will Miss Wings feel comfortable and not slide off the dashboard?”
At home, she loved her large outside “cat castle” watching birds and gifting us with various bugs and garden
snakes. She genuinely welcomed the foster cats we nurtured for the humane society.
She survived the horrific Chinese melamine pet food poisoning, which weakened her in her senior years. On the eve of Easter, we saw that she was struggling with her health; and our last gift of love was releasing her from her adorable-furry self into the waiting arms of Angels.
Our little Queen left delicate paw prints on the hearts of her family, human and
two surviving children (Whyspurr and Myster E.), and her readers. She was lovingly buried in her cat castle next to the catnip. She was and now always will be an angel using her wings and flying with the Angels and napping on their laps.
There were many miracles in Miss Wings' life. Her legacy is that dreams come true and miracles happen.
