"Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see."- Mark Twain.
Andeena’s home is just the way she loves it; full of furry cuddles and love from her Labrador dog, Eli, and two blind cats, Tobias and Vivienne.
“My first blind kitty was an accident,” admits Andeena. “She was a feral colony rescue and kept running into things. A veterinary ophthalmologist confirmed that the kitten saw some light, but that would disappear.
Vivienne’s name means ‘alive’ and she is now two and a half years old.”
Eli arrived when Vivienne was six months old and she was not paw-pared for a 14-month-old Labrador, no matter how sweet Eli was to her.
Halloween 2020 brought eight-year-old Tobias into the family. At first, he and Vivienne were at odds, but apparently, that is Andeena’s fault!
“My animal communicator said that Viv told her, ‘Absolutely not’ when asked if she wanted another cat,” said Andeena. “But when a pet group rescued blind Tobias wandering the streets, I adopted him. The pet communicator said, ‘He wants to be named Tobias, ‘God is Good’.”
The cats’ purrs-onalities are opposite. Viv gives her mother nightmares when she darts out open doors. Luckily, Tobias has no interest in following her. Viv is nervous of the dog, so she avoids him. Tobias is not afraid and plays with Eli.
“Viv sees in many other ways using all her senses. She told the pet communicator, ‘Humans’ senses are dull’ and ‘What is important is within us and what we share,” said Andeena. “She illustrates the preciousness of life, to find the beauty in things that eyes can’t see, and that love has many things to do with what you can't see. She encourages me to live in the moment and love. There is a deeper level of consciousness in living with the unsighted. Viv is joyful and being blind has
not encumbered her life.
Tobias loves crinkle toys and is a cuddle bug who sleeps in the crook of Andeena’s arm or spooning his dog. “My home is covered in pet fur. I am constantly battling their hair, sand and dirt that they bring in from the yard.
I’m a full-time maid to my pets, spoiling them and chasing their dust bunnies. I love my big pile of unique cuddly critters and wouldn’t have it any other way!”
