Deadly Pet Flea Product Alert

Forward onto friends and neighbors to protect their pets.
______________

Dearest Pet Lovers,

Last week, Cindy detailed the horrifying tale of applying flea/tick medication to her two large dogs.  Within minutes they were shaking and acting drunk. She knew they were  poisoned and rushed them to the late night emergency pet clinic.

At 1pm PST and 4pm EST  TODAY (Wednesday) the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency  is having a webcast on the products in question.

I called the FDA to confirm something is up with these products.

Yes, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is taking action on over-the-counter flea and tick products. In the last year, pet parents reported 44,000 cases of adverse reactions sickening or killing thousands of dogs and cats.

After an application of flea (insecticide) products, dogs begin; snarling, snapping, and biting.

Cindy has just learned that the product she bought and applied that evening is one of 6 brands named in 7 class action lawsuits.  "I am so grateful that I did not apply the product to my smaller pets," adds Cindy.

KTVU, San Francisco Bay Area reports:

"Capitola's Pacific Veterinary Specialists Doctor Kelly Akol said, "Symptoms include mild twitching, agitation anxiety, salivating and vomiting progressing to muscle twitching, tremors, seizures and coma."

The reactions are from one of the product's insecticides: synthetic and natural organic neurotoxins called pyrethroids.

"The prescription products your veterinarian has are generally safer and will have less side effects than the over-the-counter products," said Dr. Akol. "But they are more expensive and you do pay for those."

"We found that misapplication of flea and tick control products is the primary reason for adverse reactions," said Sergeant's Pet Products President Bob Scharf. "Reactions that can be prevented."

San Fransico Bay Area, KTVU reports uncovering EPA documents showing Sergeants and other manufacturers were quietly asked to withdraw more than 780 products containing the suspect insecticides from the market.

Veterinarians reassured that if caught in time, animals with insecticide reactions can be saved.

Cindy's vet told her to immediately bathe the area with Dawn dish soap, and then rush her dogs to the emergency clinic.  Her vet bill was $400 for the event, and she did not know to report her experience to the EPA.

The store were she purchased the product showed no interest in her experience.  It makes you wonder how many other pet parents did not report their terrifying experience to the EPA.

I phoned the store where she purchased the product and spoke to the manager.  He had not been told by his staff about her report.  Always speak to the manager.

There are natural flea repellents available without putting an insecticide inside your pets warm blooded system.  Diet is one way to help repel fleas.  The healthier the food, the less fleas.

Research Diatomaceous earth, a natural powdered-rock product, available at feed and grain stores,  sprinkled around pet enclosure's and bedding to keep fleas at bay.  The product is non-toxic and dries out the fleas and their eggs. Beneficial nematodes are another effective alternative.

Natural Herbal Products

Oregon pets are usually covered in fleas and pet parents are desperate to offer relief to their pets.

The Angel Scribe pet family discovered, Mad About Organics flea products. We wanted natural products for their well being and safety.

"Our products are
safe, natural, and include effective organic flea and tick animal care products," said Ben Hoerter, Co-Owner Mad About Organics.  "We were concerned about chemical products and their negative effects on our own horses, cats, and dogs.

Through extensive research we learned about the negative symptoms and effects associated with pyrethroids ingredients.

We do not use any pyrethroids because of their detrimental negative effects they can have on animals.

We spoke directly with the EPA and multiple veterinarians regarding each ingredient in our products.

Mad About Organics has taken the proper steps to insure that all essential oils are diluted to well below safe levels for ease of the animal to metabolize."   www.madaboutorganics.com
